Fan Shaped Wind Chime from Paper Envelopes |
|
The wind chime is created with two back-to-back fan panels. It takes seven envelopes traditionally know as hong bao to construct each panel. It is a Chinese custom to place money in hongbaos as gifts for children during Chinese New Year or on their birthdays. Bought these from a Japanese store. It depicts a an image of the Japanese Lucky Cat (招财猫). ...more

Merry Christmas in Chinese 2 |
|
圣诞 (sheng dan) means Christmas. ‘Merry’, ‘Happiness’, ‘Happy’ or 快乐 (kuai le) in Chinese are also used in other best wishes phrases such as 生日快乐 (Happy Birthday) or 新年快乐 (Happy New Year). Notice how the Chinese words arrangement differs from their English representations. The embroidery is in the more artistic calligraphic format written in simplified Chinese, commonly used in the PRC and Singapore. Hong Kong and Taiwan still used the traditional form. You can download the traditional Chinese version here.

I did a number of textured pieces recently. One of these is a Halloween pumpkin design, probably the most symbolic icon of Halloween. It is almost 2 weeks left to 31st October, so it makes sense to keep all sewing projects simple if you have just started sewing for the holiday.

Chart Checks Bracelet - A Loom Beading Project |
|
When I first started loom beading, I did a number of pattern charts for bracelets and watch straps. The Chart Checks pattern was one of my favorites. It plays on combinations of duo chromatic colored blocks of varying sizes, arranged in a graduating manner. The first piece I did with this pattern was a bracelet done in Mediterranean blue and yellow. I did it three years ago but subsequently lost it during a trip to West Malaysia. ...more

When I was young, my family had a Rubik cube. It was the craze then and hours were spent trying to solve the puzzle. I don’t recall anyone around me able to solve it or at least I didn’t catch anyone solving it in my presence. My memory of the cube is bundled up in a mess of mismatched colors, never quite like the one you first bought from the store. It is with this memory I created the Rubik Dream.
The Rubik Dream impresses on one the intensity of the cube with it’s movements of turns and twirls. When an object revolves with speed, the eyes see less intense colors.

The Chinese character "Sky" is centered amidst a background of passing clouds. I thought it will be interesting to play around with textures and muted colours in this case.

New Look for Craft2style.com! |
Guess you have been wondering why moi have been missing in action all this while.... Apart from taking a short break, I was busy updating and redesigning Craft2style.com. There was also this issue of looking for a new host as the old hosting company for the site was somewhat slagging. It is a major consideration as it concerns a total makeover. The tedious technical stuff took up most of the time. I did however enjoy redesigning the new logo and the site theme. Most important the new site will provide better access to member resources apart from neater information retrieval of the more popular articles like projects and embroidery downloads. We are also looking into providing a better access for our authors to submit their contributions. Well it has been a long wait to finally relaunch a totally new Craft2Style.com. I am particularly proud of the new logo.. |
